The PORT Institute

PORT, an integrated eclectic therapy approach, was developed by the Relate NZ team over eight years to enhance relationship therapy. Stemming from weekly team training sessions and refined through a six-year intern program, PORT aims to provide core insights for clinicians without specific couple therapy training. This practical course combines elements of PACT, EFT, Imago, Gottman, and the Developmental Model, incorporating valuable insights from various therapeutic modalities such as Narrative, ACT, NLP, Psychodrama, Gestalt, and Relational Neurobiology. PORT's focus stems from research highlighting the ineffectiveness and stress caused by untrained therapists working with couples. To support interns in their success as efficiently as possible, Steven recognized underlying patterns across Imago, Gottman, and EFT models and adapted the Relational Bridge model for interns. Innovations like the Developmental Brain Model made relational neuroscience accessible to clinicians and clients. Other advancements include the 5-Step Therapy Model for pinpointing crucial processes and Presence Bridge Model integrating mindfulness with empathy and connection.
